TIVERTON - A new problem surrounding the Sakonnet River Bridge and this time it's not about the tolls.

A Tiverton man is suing the state over flooding in and around his home he says is caused by the new bridge.

The Raposas describe it as a river, flowing from the top of the Sakonnet river bridge, down into their home. It's causing some serious damage.

Tom Raposa says he had to dig trenches, and put in piles of sand, just to stop the water from flowing into the basement of his father's home. He believes the bridge has drainage issues, causing erosion, ruining his lawn and driveway, and creating serious flooding and mold in the basement.

"You don't want standing water in your house, you know?" He said. "Around the holidays two of my nieces were down there. We're trying to enjoy the holidays and they're down there with squeegees and wet–vacs."

"I lost my patience... And I have a lot of patience, said homeowner Franklin Raposa.

After reaching out to local and state agencies about the flooding in his home, Franklin says he reached the end of his rope. He's filed a lawsuit against the state and bridge contractor.

But he's not looking for money. He says he just wants the issues taken care of.

"I just want them to fix what has to be fixed! Complete the job! That's what I want done," he said.

The Department of Transportation says it's investigating to create a corrective plan. Any actions will be included as part of a punch list scheduled to start next month.
