A group of Rhode Islanders is against a Constitutional Convention.

This morning the "Citizens for Responsible Government" launched an effort to stop a Constitutional Convention.

They believe making changes to the state document will hurt efforts to gain equality for minority groups.

“When the majority has an ax to grind or has a politics of envy, they tend to take it out on minorities that when left to referendum we see restrictive voting rights acts,” says Michael Araujo, IATSE, Local 23.

“We see restrictive labor laws, and we see a diminishment in overall democracy.”

Representatives from the Rhode Island AFL–CIO, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, the Rhode Island ACLU, Latino Public Radio and Rhode Island Pride are part of this campaign.
