After Christmas Shopping Sales and Returns

Malls around Southern New England were crowded with people returning all those unwanted Christmas gifts Thursday.

"My mother didn't like the shirt we gave her.  We are gonna get her something else," said Adam Slocum.

"It's just a bag, I wanted to get a different style," said Shana Hilario.

The day after Christmas is one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office is urging people to plan ahead before making those returns.

"If they've opened their gifts and don't like them and they've got sales receipts, look over see what the policy is and then go into the store," said Tammy Miller, Dir. Consumer Protection Unit, RI Attorney General's Office.

Miller says most return policies are posted in the front of a store, near the cash register or online.  She adds people should be prepared to pay restocking fees or only get a store credit.

Others hitting the malls Thursday were looking for the deals.

"I mean they have a lot of buy one get one free stuff and buy one get one half off at a lot of stores," said Dan Hann.

"We got some great deals, we were just in Macy's and that's where we did really well with the deals," said Sherry Boucher.

Most of the sales will last throughout the weekend.
