"Happy Birthday, Dear Mary!" they sang.
This wasn't just any birthday - Mary Poncin is celebrating her 100th birthday at Kent Hospital.
No she is not a patient; she works here.
"This is really a big, big, big surprise," said Mary Poncin.
At the young age of 97 Poncin was hired as the hospital greeter, meeting each patient and family member as they come through the front door.
"Try to console them. Try to talk to them. They are mostly in tears. By the time they leave here, their tears have stopped," said Poncin.
ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis said, "Mary worked this morning but she did get a half-day off for her birthday. But she will be back greeting patients first thing Wednesday morning."
Co–workers who came to the party say Mary's contribution to Kent Hospital is priceless.
"Everyday greeting people, helping them out. Always willing to lend a helping hand. We're so blessed to have her here at Kent," said Kent Volunteer Coordinator Jody Jencks.
Amid all the family photos, and well wishes, her son made it all the way from California.
"Wow! I mean I can't believe she's 100. But God bless me for 62 years of my life with a wonderful, wonderful mother," said Ray Poncin.
Mary says she has no plans to retire.
