One man is dead and a Boston police officer is nursing a gunshot wound after exchanging gunfire in the city's Dorchester neighborhood.
Boston Police spokeswoman Nicole Grant says the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon. The incident began with officers talking to two people. One man pushed an officer and both suspects began to run, with one of the men opening fire on police.
Grant says a bullet hit an officer in the arm and police returned fire, fatally wounding one of the men fleeing the scene.
Investigators are questioning the surviving suspect. The stricken officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
Police did not immediately release the names of the officer or those of the dead suspect and the one being questioned.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Geneva Avenue and Westville Street.
