NORTH ATTLEBORO, MA- While some were loaded with shopping bags, today, others were loading their cars with locally grown Christmas trees.

At the Miller's Family Tree Farm in North Attleboro, home–grown Christmas trees were on the list for small business Saturday.

State officials in Massachusetts are encouraging residents to buy trees from one of the state's 284 Christmas tree farms.

They say locally–grown trees not only help the state's economy but, they are also renewable and recyclable.

"Composting is very beneficial. It feeds the trees. It's just a good circle of life," said Miller's Family Farms manager, Justin Thompson.

Paul Risotti, bought a Christmas tree today. He said, "It makes me feel happy that I'm helping I guess the environment, but more that the local businesses and family businesses especially."

In addition to supporting local businesses, trees bought here tend to be fresher and won't have to travel far from other states.
