The American Red Cross honored 10 local heroes at a breakfast Friday morning.

Among the heroes are a military sergeant who sacrificed his life to save a child, two 17-year-old boys who rescued seven people from drowning, a dog that saved the life of a US Marine, an off-duty firefighter who brought a 72-year-old man back to life, and a longtime Red Cross volunteer who has been inspiring Rhode Island youth.

The breakfast, at the Omni Providence Hotel, recognizes everyday individuals who show extreme acts of kindness and courage.
