Boston already knows how to host a huge event such as the World Series, and the annual Boston Marathon.

So how about hosting the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, with perhaps Gillette stadium in Foxboro, hosting opening ceremonies?

ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis said, "An event as big as the Olympics wouldn't just be contained to Boston. They would need outside venues and arenas such as the Dunkin Donuts Center that might have to host basketball, volleyball or gymnastics."

Even stadiums at Brown, URI and RIC could be put use

With all those athletes and spectators in the region, business owner on places such as Federal Hill, love the Olympic bid.

"There's going to be thousands of people from all over. And they'll be looking for Italian food, and Federal Hill will be the main place," said Antonio DiCicco, owner of Tony's Colonial Food on Federal Hill.

Lots of hotel rooms in Rhode Island would also be booked full.

"That's one of the biggest events in the world. To have it so close to Rhode Island, Boston, the whole area, it'd be terrific," said Gov. Lincoln Chafee (D-RI).

And perhaps the biggest impact in the Ocean State would be Newport, for all Olympic sailing events.

"This is the most amazing venue on the East Coast to go sailing. We know that. And we have this incredible amphitheater here at Fort Adams State Park to run sailing events," said Brad Read of Sail Newport.

Leading the Boston bid are former Governor Mitt Romney who ran the Salt Lake City Olympics, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, so New England's bid will have clout.
