By Alana Cerrone
A Fairhaven woman was arraigned today on motor vehicle homicide charges following the death of a 23-year-old man.
Caitlin Chouinard, 26, was driving her '05 Jeep on Rte. 140 north in New Bedford around 2:00 am Friday when she apparently lost control. The vehicle rolled over and landed on Rte. 140 north in between Exits 4 and 5.
Soon after, Adam Taylor, 23, of Acushnet, crashed his '94 Jeep into Chouinard's vehicle.
The collision sent both vehicles up in flames. Chouinard was able to escape before the fire began. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chouinard is being treated for unknown injuries at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was charged with motor vehicle homicide by result of operating under the influence of alcohol, and with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violations. Bail was set for $5,000 cash and she is due to appear in New Bedford District Court for a pretrial hearing on January 24th.
