Woonsocket voters to select a new mayor

Woonsocket voters are headed to the tolls to choose their next mayor.

Sitting Mayor Leo Fontaine is facing off against State Representative Lisa Baldelli Hunt at the top of the ballot. Municipal offices and some city councilors are also facing off in the election.

During the primary Baldelli-Hunt won by a landslide taking 2,746 votes, with Fontaine taking second place with only 881 votes. Two other candidates, Dave Fisher and Michael Moniz lost in the primary.

The winner of the Mayors race will serve a term of three years.

Central Falls voters can also vote for a mayor today however, incumbent Mayor James Diossa is running unopposed.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. tonight and voters are urged to bring a valid ID when they head out to vote.
