BOSTON-MA- Bostonians by the hundreds of thousands were "Boston Strong" in support of the team that defied expectations to win the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

"We had guys with big hearts and never gave up and I think that's what makes true champions," said Red Sox player, John Lester.

The Red Sox kicked off a so–called rolling rally that traveled from Fenway Park to the Charles River.

The celebrations were unrestrained as the team road in bearded duck boats for the joy ride that included a dip in the river along the way.

The rally took a solemn turn when the World Series trophy was placed at the Boson Marathon finish line. Johnny Gomes placed a Boston Strong-617 jersey along with it.

As second baseman Dustin Pedroia put it, the win wasn't just for the team.

"We wanted to do this and make it right for everybody," said Pedroia.
