A New Bedford school is performing so poorly that the state is now taking over control of the school.
The future of John Avery Parker Elementary School is now in the hands of the state of Massachusetts.
The takeover comes after the school failed to improve after 3–years of monitoring.
Now the state must decide between three options to turn the school around; appointing a receiver, a special task force, or direct the district superintendent to come up with solutions.
A final decision on how to improve the school will be made in the next 30–days.
