NORTH SMITHFIELD - Red Sox fans are still floating after last night's huge
win, though none are happier than a group of local friends who
were so busy celebrating last night's game–winning grand slam in the monster
seats...that they almost missed the ball when it landed right at
Now they have the ultimate souvenir.
"We were literally just hugging, like all 4 of us were
hugging and one security guard was just screaming 'ball' and I had no
idea, I literally looked down and it was just rolling at my foot," said URI grad Nick Wood, who currently has the ball.
"You see the video and you know, we're just going nuts
because the ball made it over the monster and then... the ball almost whacked
me in the back of the head," said Chris Biliouris, who was sitting atop the green monster when the ball fell.
Now... After obtaining a piece of baseball history... there's a chance the ball may not stay in the hands of Wood.
Shane Victorino wants his game winning homer back. He exchanging
numbers with wood after the game.
"All of our phones died into the 5th
inning...so we were scrambling trying to find chargers, Nick's like,
'Victorino's going to text me I'm going to miss it!,' it was stressful," said Biliouris.
But the guys aren't worried about future games. They plan on attending the World Series... hHopeful something like this might happen again.
"I got a magnet for the ball I feel like," said Wood.
"We're pulling for the Red Sox obviously, its been kind of a
tough year for Boston...earlier
this year what happened at the marathon so, It would be a fitting way to end
the year with a parade going down the same street," said Nick D'Agostino, who was also sitting with the friends when the ball fell.
When it comes down to who will get that game–winning
ball, it's still up in the air. ABC6 asked Wood if Shane Victorino may be getting his hands
back on it... but he didn't have an answer quite yet.
