A 34-year-old Providence man will serve 27 years in prison for a 2007 sexual assault after DNA taken from him following an unrelated conviction tied him to the crime.
Authorities say that in 2007 Christopher Swiridowsky kidnapped and raped a woman in his truck before pushing her naked onto the street. The victim could not identify her attacker but his DNA was recovered.
In 2009, Swiridowsky's vehicle struck three people in a hit-and-run accident. Swiridowsky drove off with one victim lodged in his windshield but was apprehended. The victims survived.
After Swiridowsky was convicted of the hit-and-run authorities took DNA that matched the 2007 sample. He was convicted of the sexual assault in July.
Swiridowsky's sentence was announced Tuesday. The prison term will be followed by 23 years of probation.
