Miss Universe and Cranston native Olivia Culpo could be facing prison time after an unauthorized photo shoot at the Taj Mahal in India.
Culpo was on a ten day visit to India as Miss Universe.
Indian police filed a case against Culpo and others for the footwear shoot. Police say you need permission from the Archaeological Survey of India for a commercial shoot.
People who are proud to call Culpo their neighbor feel bad she could face up to two years in prison.
"I don't think she should be responsible for anything that happens," said Karina McCarthy.
"She's representing the world and you know I am sure she's just beyond embarrassed and just so ashamed that this was done," said Rita Hughs.
Some feel her handlers should have known better.
"Whenever you go to a foreign land ya have to respect their respective buildings and culture and customs. I would have thought they would have done their research before that. Even the slightest misunderstanding can be blown out of proportion," said Chet Morrissey.
The Miss Universe Organization is responding to the incident saying in part:
"We sincerely apologize for any unintentional harm our indiscretion and insensitivity may have cause."
