Burn victim from 2003 Station Night Club Fire speaks at burn conference

Joe Kinan, a 44-year-old recovering burn victim spoke to burn victims about overcoming his struggle at the Rhode Island Convention Center on Thursday.   

Kinan of Lakeville, Mass was one of the mostly severely burned victims from the 2003 West Warwick Station Night Club fire.

He had more than 120 surgeries and about a year ago had a hand transplant.

Through all of the pain he has found love with another burn victim that he meet six years ago in Vancouver at a World Burn Congress.

On the day that marked the anniversary of the first time they meet each other, Kinan asked Carrie Pratt to marry him.

This was three days prior to his hand transplant.

Kinan spoke to victims about dealing with the challenges to finding love, building relationships, dealing with the fear of rejection and self-consciousness saying:

"Take me as I am or keep walking."

The Phoenix Society held the conference that about 850 people from all around the world attended.
