PLYMOUTH, MA- A crew member aboard the ship over taken by Somali pirates in 2009 is giving two thumbs up to the new Captain Phillips movie.
The film depicts the terror the crew members faced during that hostage situation involving four Somali pirates.
Captain Shane Murphy was left in-charge once Captain Phillips was taken off the ship as a hostage.
The film's central character, Captain Richard Phillips is played by actor Tom Hanks, but there was another captain aboard that ship.
"You know I was standing there, talking to Captain Phillips, drinking coffee, having our morning discussion and about 20 minutes later, locked in my office with gunshots out the door," said Captain Capt. Shane Murphy.
Murphy says the pirates were there to take possession of the ship, hoping to get millions by ransoming the ship back to its owner.
After five days, Navy rescuers shot and killed three of the pirates. One was apprehended and is now serving time in Federal prison.
None of the crew members were hurt. Murphy along with all the crew members were consulted for the movie.
"You know they took some of it and made changes for entertainment purposes and hopefully it's just good fun and everybody enjoys it," said Murphy.
