PORTSMOUTH - It wasn't how anyone at clock tower square in Portsmouth
thought their day would go... especially not the employees at Lou Lou's Décor, who were surprised when the front–end of a sedan crashed completely into their store.
Now, It's cleanup time at the shop.
The damage made by an elderly woman who drove across this
parking lot median, up onto the curb... and into the front of the store.
"I was standing right behind the counter," said Molly Esau, who was working at the shop at the time of the crash. "I heard
a really weird noise so I looked up and all of a sudden I saw a white car
flying at me."
"We initially thought it was a bomb going off...
because it was so loud and so intimidating because of the noise," said Lisa Hurd, owner of Stalise, right next door to Lou Lou's."You could
almost see the sawdust from the wood coming down... so initially it was pretty
Police speculate the driver accidentally hit the gas, sending her through the store front. She was taken to a local hospital to be checked out but
no major injuries were reported.
"I'm just grateful that no one was injured," said Stacy Carlson, owner of Lou Lou's Decor. "This
is something that will be easy... well I don't know if it'll be easy... but
it's something we can repair."
It's too soon to know the full extent of the damage inside
the store...but in addition to some tables, lamps, and home furnishing that
were damaged, there were also some special items in the front of the shop at
the time of the crash.
"Well unfortunately we had just received two mirrors
and a custom cabinet for a customer that were too heavy for us to move and so
those were right in front," Carlson said.
The team at Lou Lou's says they're not quite sure when they'll be open for business again. They say they're shooting for this weekend or the beginning of next week.
