The Rhode Island Republican Party's gun raffle has sold out.

The party has sold all 3,000 tickets to the controversial-raffle of an AR 15 semi-automatic rifle, a gun similar to the one used in the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, in Newtown, Connecticut.

The prize will be raffled off at a celebration on Sunday at the South County Rod and Gun club in honor of "Second Amendment Day." The festivities are sponsored by the Rhode Island Republican Party.

The rifle raffle has been controversial within the party with some local lawmakers including Cranston Mayor Allan Fung and potential Attorney General Candidate Dawson Hodgson saying they disagree with the raffle.

The party leadership has not backed away for the raffle instead they have noted that the fundraiser has been a success.
