The Rhode Island Ethics Commission has authorized an investigation into an ethics complaint against House Speaker Gordon Fox to go forward.
On Sept. 3 Judith Reilly of Salem Mass., filed a complaint with the commission against Fox alleging that he violated the code of ethics by failing to disclose income he received for doing legal work for the Providence Economic Development Partnership between the years of 2005-2009.
The commission said it will now commence an investigation to determine if the allegations are true. Fox received over $40,000 in closing fees for loans granted by the troubled Providence Economic Development Partnership. The organization promotes economic development in the city of Providence through loans to small businesses, however, the Providence Journal reports almost half of the loans granted by the agency between 2010 and 2012 are delinquent.
