Staff Sgt. Timothy Raymond McGill, 30, of Ramsey, N.J. died September 21 in eastern Afghanistan. McGill died from wounds from small arms fire.
McGill was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion 19th Special Forces, Rhode Island National Guard as a weapons sergeant with Operation Enduring Freedom.
McGill first joined the military in August of 2001. He joined the National Guard in June of 2008.
McGill is the 6th Rhode Island National Guard Soldier to die in combat since 9/11.
He also serviced his local community as an active firefighter for the Ramsey Fire Dept.
He is survived by his parents.
