PROVIDENCE, RI- Six dogs have been put down at the Providence Animal Shelter after an outbreak of Parvovirus. The shelter shut down Monday for ten days after workers detected the first case of the virus.
The shelter says the virus, which infects the animal's intestine, came from stray dogs that were not vaccinated before they were brought in.
Workers are spraying the animal shelter with parvocide and bleach every 15 minutes to eliminate the virus. Parvovirus has an incubation period of five days.
