A 3-year old boy was among 12 people who were shot in Cornell Square Park in the southwest side of Chicago on Thursday night around 10 p.m.
The boy was originally in critical condition due to being wounded in the cheek, his grandmother stated that he is "doing better" and is "very strong".
The boy had been brought to the hospital and had under gone plastic surgery following the incident.
Two other victims were in critical condition, the rest of the victims were reported being in fair or serious condition.
According to Chicago police officer Amina Greer, the shooting started around 10 PM.
Julian Harris, uncle of the young boy who was shot in the cheek, spoke with the Chicago Sun-Times, telling them that men in a gray sedan shot at him and his nephew and then continued to shoot at people in Cornell Square Park.
Ron Gaines spokesperson for the Chicago Police said that all of the victims are being questioned but no one is currently in custody.
