A late-night shootout Wednesday night has left two in custody and one 18-year-old in the hospital.

At around 11:30 pm, the Gang Task Force pulled up in an unmarked car to talk to a group of suspected gang members at 32 Sackett Street, a known location for gang activity. Meanwhile, two suspects emerged from Emerson Street and fired as many as 10-12 shots in their direction, intended for the gang members. Both suspects had guns.

A car chase ensued that ended when the suspects' vehicle slammed into 2 police vehicles.  James Lawrence, 20, of Providence/Johnston has been arrested and charged with felony assault and possession of a firearm without a license. Vincente Rodriguez, 23, of Providence was arrested and charged with felony assault. Both will be arraigned in Providence District Court Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses say they heard a lot of yelling, and one even said police arrested a suspect in his yard on Depew Street.

One 18-year-old man who was talking to police on Sackett Street was hit in both legs. He was sent to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

Police are still searching for two more suspects. No officers were injured.
