Rhode Island State Police Superintendent Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Chief Sidney Wordell of the Little Compton Police Department, and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety publicize the arrest of two older individuals for the cultivation and distribution of marijuana associated charges.

The past two months Little Compton Police Department and Rhode Island State Police Intelligence have been under investigation with regards to growing and distribution of multiple marijuana operations.

The first suspect has been identified as 50-year old William Maney of 1 High Meadow Road in Little Compton.

He has a marijuana care giver card and was cultivating marijuana in his home.

Investigators believe that he was operating outside the boundaries of the care giver card and was selling marijuana to individuals who do not own a card.

An undercover State Police Detective was able to make three hand-to-hand transactions for marijuana with Maney.

Upon these three accounts, a warrant was issued for Maney's arrest for three counts of Delivery of Marijuana to a Police Officer.

The Rhode Island State Police Intelligence Unit made a fourth hand-to-hand purchase off of Maney and following was his arrest in the town of Tiverton.

Police also obtained a search warrant for his home and found 35 marijuana plants, three of which were in his backyard, roughly 25 ounces of loose marijuana which were ready for sale and $10,600 in cash.

He was arraigned at the State Police Wickford Barracks before being release on $10,000 bail on the charges of delivery of marijuana to a police officer on four counts, possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, and cultivation of marijuana.

Investigators also found more marijuana plants in a second residence in an abandoned home on 56 Long Highway in Little Compton.

The house was being maintained daily by 51-year old Matthew Cornacchia of 160 County Lane, Leominster, Massachusetts.

Many rooms on all three floors were in the cultivating and operational stages.

Upon police entering, they seized 32 marijuana plants, 22 root stems from harvested plants, and approximately 100 pounds of organic marijuana that was in the process of being mechanized.

Cornacchia was arraigned in the Second Division Court and held on a $30,000 bail on the charges of cultivation of marijuana, possession marijuana with intent to deliver, and maintaining a narcotics nuisance.
