Democrat Martha Coakley is entering the crowded 2014 race for Massachusetts governor.

Coakley's campaign said Sunday that she'll be kicking off her candidacy in her hometown of Medford Monday morning. She'll then begin a three-day blitz visiting 18 cities and towns.

Coakley has been popular as the state's attorney general, but in 2010 she lost a special election for U.S. Senate to Republican Scott Brown for the seat left vacant by the death of longtime Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick is not seeking re-election.

Several Democrats already have declared for the governor's race including state Treasurer Steven Grossman, former Obama administration health care official Don Berwick, former federal and state homeland security official Juliette Kayyem and former Wellesley selectman Joseph Avellone.

Republican Charles Baker also is running.
