A 24-year-old woman was killed during an early morning car crash in Richmond.

Sierra S. Stanton of Wakefield, R.I.  lost control of her vehicle around 1:30 a.m. across the street from the Richmond Elementary School.

Stanton was travelling west  on Kingstown Road and when she reached a significant right bearing curve she travelled into the left lane and then off the roadway colliding the side of the vehicle with a utility pole sheering it near the base, before striking a large tree. The vehicle then spun out of control and finally stopped after colliding with a highway sign.

Corporal Justin Vachon who was nearby at the elementary school responded immediately.. He discovered Stanton in the vehicle displaying no signs of life. Emergency services responded and Stanton was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday morning Richmond Elementary School was closed as a result of downed power lines and traffic was detoured on Route 138 as National Grid worked to restore power.
