ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) A Rhode Island man has been mauled by a grizzly bear during a guided hunt in Alaska.

Alaska State Troopers say John Matson's injuries to his head and body do not appear to be life-threatening. He was being transported to an Anchorage hospital Tuesday.

Troopers were notified Monday evening about the attack 50 miles west of the interior Alaska community of McGrath.

Weather prevented him from being picked up until Tuesday; other hunters in his party cared for him in the meantime.

During the hunt, Matson shot the grizzly, which ran off. Troopers say Matson went to look for the bear and he was attacked when he was in high brush.

The bear ran off after it was shot several more times.

Matson's hometown was not immediately available.
