The Bristol Town Council has approved a $264,000 in spending for the town to purchase a new rescue truck for the fire department.
The truck is used to carry special equipment, hazmat calls, and extrications.
The new vehicle will replace a truck that was totaled when a former Bristol volunteer firefighter crashed it during a joy ride in 2011.
24-year-old Clayton Hardon pleaded guilty to charges to taking the vehicle while off duty and getting in an accident on Woodlawn Avenue.
He was ordered to pay $110,000 in restitution and perform five hundred hours of community service.
