The Bristol Police department has identified the man who fell 70-feet from the Mt. Hope Bridge as David Dupee, 45 from Bozrah, CT.
He was rushed to Rhode Island hospital Tuesday morning, where he was pronounced dead, according to Bristol police.
The RITBA reported that at around 8:30 am, the man who was working on the steel painting it and doing repair work fell approximately 70 feet.
Although the bridge is still open, work on both the Mount Hope Bridge and the Newport Pell Bridge has ceased. Safety procedures and requirements are under review.
David Darlington, the chairman of the Rhode Island turnpike and bridge authority released the following statement:
"On behalf of the board of directors and employees of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the worker's family, friends, colleagues and loved ones for their loss."
