Bristol's famous Fourth of July parade is on Thursday, but the town has been celebrating the holiday for weeks. Presiding over those events – two bright young girls.
This year, Daniela Lopes, 19, and Lily Sarnowski, 9, are helping to carry the Independence Day tradition forward.
For the past 65 years the town of Bristol has crowned a Miss Fourth of July, and back in 1997 a "little miss" was added.
The two young girls attend all the town's events.
"Wherever you go it's like ‘hey how are you," says Lopes. "It's really great because we're representing the town."
But it's not all about pomp and pageantry – the girls say they've learned some valuable lessons from each other, and through their experience.
"So far it has definitely taught me a lot about poise and presence and knowing how to talk to the public," says Lopes. "It's nice being police, it just makes you feel good!" Said Sarnowski.
