TWIN RIVER, RI- Rhode Island now has its first full-scale casino. Twin River has been trying to get table games for years and after getting approval from voters last fall, they're finally here; two weeks ahead of schedule.
Hundreds filed into the seven million dollar renovated game room, where roulette, craps, and blackjack are now played.
John Bell said, "Why would I want to drive all the way to Connecticut when I can have a short 20 minute ride here."
The real winner is the state. Table games are expected to rake in an additional 16 to 20 million dollars a year. Last year, the machines brought in nearly three-hundred million.
"So I look forward to both good jobs for Rhode Islanders and revenue for the state which we will spend wisely, I can promise you," said Governor, Lincoln Chaffee.
"The tables are very nice. Everything is modern, everything is clean, and I'm sure the new dealers are going to do a great job," said blackjack player, Lou Marciano.
Twin River has already hired 400 new employees. The company says it plans to hire at least a hundred more in the next few months.
