SOMERSET, Mass. (AP) - Police are looking for a motorist who fled the scene of a crash in Somerset that killed a man in a wheelchair.
Authorities say the hit-and-run happened around 11:43 p.m. Friday on Read Street near Southway Drive.
Investigators say the suspect's vehicle could be a gray Toyota, possibly a Corolla that has damage to its right front end that includes the headlight area.
Authorities identified the deceased as 65-year-old local resident James Moore, who lived about a quarter-mile from the crash scene.
Somerset Police Chief Joseph Ferreira says Moore was a kind, well-known man who recently sought him out a town meeting to say he supported the police.
The chief says local and state police are investigating the crash together.
