Tebow mania takes off in Foxboro. The newest Patriot was at mini–camp Tuesday, and so were media from all over the country.
"Calm down, I'll speak loud enough for everyone to hear," said Tebow as he was swarmed after practice. More than double the number of media was at Gillette for Tim Tebow's first practice with the Patriots.
"I just want to thank the Patriots for giving me an opportunity," said Tebow.
It's Tebow–mania and fan Jessica Hickey is jumping on the bandwagon.
"I think it's pretty simple. It's just, it's Tim Tebow," said Hickey.
She's already looking for her number 5 Tim Tebow jersey at Patriot Place Pro Shop.
"I thought they would already have them in here, but I guess I was wrong," said Hickey.
Even though they don't have any Tim Tebow jerseys at the Pro Shop yet, workers say phones are already ringing off the hook with requests.
There's no doubt Tim Tebow, let go by the Jets after last season, comes with a certain amount of notoriety.
"I think there's been a circus because he's a big named player, who also has a last name that's used as a verb," said one fan.
That verb is "tebowing," a name for the quarterback's signature prayer pose out on the field, which some Pats fans aren't buying into. They're sounding off on Twitter and Facebook, calling him a "mediocre qb" and "our new waterboy."
But super fan Hickey says Tebow can only bring more power to the Pats.
"It's just Tim Tebow, superhero," said Hickey.
"I'm looking forward to working hard, and getting a lot better and learning under some great people," said Tebow.
