With so many people in need some Rhode Islanders are trading in their memorial day plans to head to Oklahoma.

Jon Marland's 24 foot trailer is ready to hit the road —– except this time it won't be filled with motorcycles.

"We're collecting hand sanitizer, diapers, gloves..." Marland is gathering supplies to take to survivors in Oklahoma. "It means a lot to me to help other people."

He even canceled a camping trip with his family to make the trip. "They were a littledevastated by the whole thing but when I told her I was reaching out to other people it touched her too that I did the same thing."

Since Marland posted the information about his trip he's had an outpouring of support from the community. Local businesses have offered to fill their trucks and join in on the 17–hundred mile trek.

Benny's in Coventry is collecting items inside their store.

Marland isn't the only Rhode Islander pitching in. TnF wellness in riverside has started collecting supplies as well. "There are families that lost everything, you know they're barely picking up pictures off the ground so if sending them some supplies can help them get through another day it's the least we can do."

The mammoth tornado took the lives of 24 people, nine of those were children.

"Somewhere down the line that circle of life is going to come around and i might need something and somebody might be helping me out and that's what I'm hoping for." Marland will be at Benny's in Coventry from noon to 8 tomorrow collecting supplies. He plans to leave for Oklahoma Saturday morning.

On Sunday Cardi's Furniture locations will collect items to assist in relief efforts at all Cardi Furniture locations between 8 am and 11 am. People are asked to bring bottled water and sports drinks, energy bars, diapers, and paper towels and wipes. The Red Cross will also be on hand for any monetary donations.
