A five-year-old is in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital after a hit-and-run accident on Monday evening.

Kharon Pon was running across the street around 6 p.m. to get his bicycle near his home on Linwood Avenue when he was hit by a red jeep.

Pon's father, Sann, was outside working on his car when the accident happened and the driver of the jeep took off.

Kharon Pon was immediately transported to Rhode Island Hospital and the driver of the vehicle was apprehended a short time later. Pon is suffering from a broken femur, skull fracture, and internal bleeding.

The driver, 23-year-old Terrell Taylor, returned to the scene 15 minutes later where he was taken into custody. He appeared in Providence District Court Tuesday morning to face charges of fleeing the scene of an accident that caused serious injury. He was given 20,000 bail with surety. Taylor is set to appear in superior court Tuesday afternoon. He's also a probation violator for prior incidents of indecent exposure.
