PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Mayor Angel Taveras is praising Brown University for investing in children living in Providence after the Ivy League school announced that it's giving 20 scholarships to public high school students in the city.
Brown has announced that it will be awarding the scholarships worth $2,500 for the upcoming academic year, with at least one scholarship given at each Providence public high school.
The grants are the latest awarded by the Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence.
Graduating high school seniors may submit applications over the next week. Recipients will be announced later this month.
Taveras says the program represents yet another example of the city's strong partnership with Brown University and the school's commitment to the community.
Taveras says financial aid helps students attend schools of their choice.
