Rhode Island has a Doodle 4 Google finalist! A fourth grader from Smithfield is one step closer to having her amazing art on the Google homepage for hundreds of millions to see. Wednesday evening Google announced 50 state winners in its annual "Doodle 4 Google" competition.

The competition calls for students K-12 to redesign the Google Logo inspired by the theme "My Best Day Ever…" Kathryn Heenan is one the state winners selected from more than 130,000 students. All 50 finalists will have their art displayed in a special exhibit in New York from May 22- July 14

Now Kathryn needs your help! The public will be able to vote for their favorite doodle from the 50 state winners and help select five national finalists (one per grade group). Voting will be open from May 1 – May 10 http://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html

Google will then announce the five national finalists and one of them as the national winner on May 22 at an awards ceremony at its New York City office, which all 50 state winners will be invited to.

The winning student's art will be displayed on the Google homepage on May 23 and will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for his/her school.

Guest Judge this year include Kathie Couric, Brian Henson and Chris Sanders who helped Google employees narrow the submissions down to 50 state winners

GOOD LUCK Kathryn!
