JAMESTOWN, R.I. - A Jamestown resident made a grisly discovery Sunday afternoon when they saw a body wash ashore on a section of beach.
Police say the body was found about a mile south of the Jamestown bridge. The area is part of a network of hiking trails on the island, commonly used by hikers and people walking their dogs.
When police pulled the body out of the water, they determined that the deceased was a 30-40 year-old white female.
Jamestown police are working with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the identity of the woman, and how she died.
However, police say there is no obvious indication that the woman died as a result of a homicide.
