A female harbor seal known as "Pup 49" because of her rehabilitation number is now being permanently cared for by Mystic aquarium thanks to permission from the National Marine fisheries service.
Pup 49 had a rear, left flipper amputated after suffering a life-threatening infection in which she recovered beautifully. She is currently living at the Mystic aquarium aquatic animal study center where a special ramp helps her exit the water with ease since she's a bit weaker, less agile swimmer and requires more effort to haul out of the water compared to seals with two flippers.
Mystic aquarium is asking for the public's help in trying to name the injured seal. Volunteers that cared for her while in rehab selected five names for public voting: Coral, Grace, Hope, Madison and Mystic
