The Pawtucket Red Sox are coming off one of the most successful seasons in franchise history. On Thursday they will start their title defense of the governer's cup and thusly maybe just a little bit of pressure on new manager Gary DiSarcina.

"I can't guarantee a trophy," DiSarcina said. "I mean when I came in here for the press conference in November the thing looked like a Stanley Cup trophy. I was like thanks Arnie, it is tough to follow him up, but I am really proud of what Arnie did. That team was special. This team we are going to have to write out own story.

"Wwe had a bunch of guys rotating in and out. I think we had 23 call ups is what DiSarcina said and we found a way to keep talent on the field down here so hopefully we can find a way to keep that going," Ryan Lavarnway said.

Even with some of that talent moving on, T his year's Pawsox club has 14 players returning from last year and have a pair of starting pitchers obtained from the Dodgers in Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster.

"Ii am really looking forward to it. There is a lot of great guys on this team. It is going to be a fun year," Webster Said.

New skipper DiSarcina is already making an impression on his players.

"Gary has been awesome. The only time I ran into him is when I was in Lowell. He was our infielder and that was the only time I got to really hang out with him when he was in the dugout. So this is the first time I got to really spend some time with him and its been a blast. He was great before but now being a manager there are a lot of good things and I am excited to play for him," outfielder Bryce Brentz said.

Knuckleballer Steven Wright will get the first start of the season on thursday. He will be followed by flame thrower Webster who the Sox acquired from the LA Dodgers last season, on friday.
