It's been a long and difficult road for the firefighters of the Central Coventry Fire District. The closure of three of the five stations Friday morning leaving many of them anxious about their futures.

"We're all very nervous about what's going to happen. We have kids to take care of ...bills to pay," said firefighter Joseph Bourquin.

By April 12th all the stations doors will be closed. 46 firefighters, including the chief, will be out of a job. Among them is Bourquin who will now have to find new means to pay for his son's growing medical bills.

"He's 8 months old. He's got an incurable medical condition. It's part of the stuff we've been dealing with for a couple of years so losing my job is pretty devastating to this family," said Bourquin.

It's a heavy burden to bear, but for the next week and a half the men and woman of the department still have a job to do. They will continue to protect the community until the department runs out of money or they are forced out.

"Just gonna get on the truck. That's what we do take care of my brothers. Keep people until they tell us not to come in any more," said Bourquin.
