Pawtucket resident Shawn A Whitfield is in the hospital after being viciously attacked with a knife.
Pawtucket police say it happened around 7:30 PM, on 28 Darrow street last night. When police arrived, they found Whitfield bloodied,with multiple stab wounds, and he was rushed to the hospital.
The assailant was identified as Providence resident Tony Fugate. After stabbing Whitfield, he fled to 426 High St. in Central Falls. With the help of the Central Falls Police Dept, Fugate was arrested without incident. He was held overnight at Pawtucket Police headquarters, and made his first court appearance today, where he was charged with "Felony Assault." His bail is set at $10,000 with surety.
Whitfield is in critical, but stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital, and his injuries are non life-threatening.
