Firefighters were called to Pocasset Cemetery Wednesday evening around 11:00 pm for reports of a brush fire but when they arrived on scene they discovered that the fire was actually a burning body.
Police say the body belonged to a black man in his early 20's but his identity is not being released pending notification of his next of kin. The man was identified through fingerprints.
The scene was described by investigators as "gruesome."
Police are continuing to investigate and hope that the autopsy will help them reveal the time, cause and manner of death.
