PAWTUCKET, R.I. - The City of Pawtucket and the Pawtucket School Department have announced that they will soon share information technology services, saying the move will save money and increase efficiency.
The city said in a press release that a "memorandum of understanding" was signed between the two departments. A unanimous resolution was approved March 6 by the city council.
"This is a classic win-win for both our schools and the city side of municipal operations," Mayor Donald R. Grebien said. "This agreement allows us to combine our strengths, maximize our resources, and bring new efficiencies that will streamline government while making best use of our limited taxpayer dollars."
Officials say that consolidating information technology in Pawtucket will save the city enough money to hire four support/help desk technicians and will increase the availability of IT services throughout the city.
