There is a new sheriff in town. David M. DeCesare, a 24-year veteran of the Johnston Police Department, will be sworn in as the new Chief Sheriff for the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs on Friday.
DeCesare will be responsible for the daily operation, policy implementation and direction of Sheriffs including custody, safety, discipline and well being of inmates and defendants while be transported to and from the court houses and other facilities. He will oversee approximately 175 employees.
DeCesare has received the Johnston Police Medal of Valor and the Rhode Island American Legion Medal of Valor. He is a graduate from Roger Williams University and a graduate from the FBI National Academy.
