A new study by the Gallup Healthways well-being index has Rhode Island listed as one of the more unhappy states in the U.S.
Rhode Island ranked number 37 in the country, down from last years ranking of 35.
Rhode Island bottoms the list in the "work environment category" ranking number 50 and it nears the bottom of the list for emotional health, ranking number 48.
On the bright side, Rhode Island neared the top of the list for physical health coming in at number 9 and number 15 for healthy behavior.
The happiest state in America was Hawaii and the saddest state was West Virginia.
Overall, Rhode Island ranked far below the other New England States; New Hampshire came in at number 8, Vermont at number 5, Massachusetts at number 9, and Connecticut was number 17.
The study analyzed healthy behavior and work environment among other factors to assess the well being ranking among states.
