LINCOLN, R.I. - A driver who rear-ended a police car on route 146 Sunday morning causing multiple injuries has been cited for driving while intoxicated.
Police say an officer was dispatched to Route 146 North near the I-295 interchange to help a broken-down motorist. While the officer was assisting the motorist, another vehicle slammed into the back of his police cruiser, completely destroying it.
Three people, including the officer, were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police say the officer is expected to be okay, but they had no word on the others who were involved in the three-car accident.
Police say the driver has been charged with DWI, possession of narcotics, and driving to endanger.
