PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that has left a woman with non life-threatening injuries after she was shot in the arm.
Police say around 2 a.m., a woman and her boyfriend left Club Ambis at 737 Cranston Street. As the couple was walking down the street, police say a four-door jeep or other type of SUV approached from behind and shot at the woman.
The woman, who police have not yet identified, suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound to her right arm and was treated at Rhode Island Hospital.
According to detectives, the woman's boyfriend may have been arguing with the shooters at the nightclub shortly before it closed for the night. Detectives are saying the incident is "definitely a nightclub related act of violence", although they did not suggest the nightclub sanctioned this type of violence.
Providence has seen a rash of violence at its nightclubs over the past year, such as the incidents at Level II. The city has penalized or shut down some of the most violent clubs.
Police say they do not yet have a suspect.
