The eagle has landed. An eagle that was shot in Rhode Island and discovered in the Johnston Central Landfill has made it safely to its new temporary home; the Raptor Trust in New Jersey.
Eleanor, the 2-year-old bald eagle, has been making a slow recovery under the care of the Wildlife Rehabilitators Association of Rhode Island but the group decided that the bird would be better off under the care of the Raptor Trust which specializes in rehabilitation wild birds. The eagle suffered from several pellet gun shot wounds in the head and body.
Eleanor was the first eagle cared for by the Wildlife Rehabilitators Association of Rhode Island. Veterinarians with the center said they are hopeful that if Eleanor is around other eagles at the Raptor Trust, she will begin to eat on her own again.
